As we enter a post-pandemic world, travel is on everyone’s mind. While it can be amazing to fill our summer with fun vacations and day trips, travel can be hard on the mind, body and spirit. Often times we resolve ourselves to push through the stress of travel and endure until we reach our final destination. Here are some easy travel tips to follow to decrease stress and keep our bodies healthy. 

One of the hardest aspects of travel is where and what to eat. While some large international airports have started to offer healthy options, most airports feature fast food or their restaurants aren’t open when you’re departing. Below is a list of easy foods to pack in advance and take to the airport for your next trip.

List of Travel Friendly Foods

  • You can’t go wrong with fresh veggies. Try packing fresh veggies such as cucumbers, carrots, bell-peppers, broccoli and sprouts. 
  • Chia seed pudding: there are so many delicious recipes online, but our favorite is this simple banana chia seed pudding recipe
  • Homemade hummus: It surprises a lot of my patients how easy it is to whip up delicious hummus at home. 
  • Fruit Salad: A fresh fruit salad can satisfying those pesky sugar cravings, especially when you pass your 5th dessert offering. 
  • Homemade trailmix: Scour your favorite Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods for uniquely seasoned nuts for an updated trailmix option. Add some dark chocolate chips to remember your camping days. 
  • Sea Salt: Add some sea salt to your trailmix or bring a healthier chip option. If you’re brave enough, add a tiny sprinkle to your water bottle. Salt helps re-mineralize your body after a long period of travel. 
  • Granola: There are so many healthy versions of granola at grocery stores now, you’re bound to find a flavor you love. 
  • Salad with quinoa: The gold standard of salads with added protein and healthy starch. 
  • Seed crackers: Mary’s Gone Crackers is a personal favorite!  

Travel Hacks

  • Invest in sound-cancelling headphones
  • Invest in mini heat pad
  • Drink lots of water
  • Eat before you leave for airport
  • Before you board, walk and stretch your body. 
  • Meditate before taking off and before landing
